About Tucson Mailbox Art

Tucson's neighborhood streets are lined with single-family homes. Many of these homes have mailboxes at the curb... and some of these mailboxes are artistic. (You’ll especially notice these mailboxes if you’re going fairly slowly — on a bicycle, for instance, as I do. I avoid the main streets whenever I can... I take different streets than I have before... and I bring a camera.)

This blog has photos of the mailboxes I’ve spotted, a brief description, the address, and a place to click to find the mailbox on a map. If you’re looking for a particular mailbox, or for mailboxes in a certain part of town, please let me know what sort of extra information would help you! Here's the contact page (that’s probably better than leaving a comment here or on one of the mailboxes).

If you’d like to read more about mailboxes, our first post explains.

Do you know the story of a particular mailbox or want to say something about it? Please do leave a comment. Other people will see it, appreciate it, and might reply with another comment. (Comments are moderated to avoid ones that are off-topic. I try to stay on top of them, but it may take a day or two for yours to appear.)

Oh, and I know from my years writing the Tucson Murals Project blog that the following question will come up: “What is art?” I don’t try to make a formal definition; I'll leave that to people who enjoy long discussions. My definition is roughly this: If it's not a plain-vanilla factory-made cookie-cutter typical mailbox, it might be artistic. When in doubt, I post a photo here and let you decide.

Thanks for visiting. I hope you enjoy!

  1. HI, Jerry. Howard Rains here. I have contributed a couple of pics to your murals blog. So, I recently started taking pics of mailboxes because there are so many great ones here in Tucson. While at work this morning, I decided to do an image search of mailboxes and what do I find? Another blog by you of another topic that I enjoy. we must have a lot in common. Thanks so much for all the pics.

    Have a great day

  2. Thanks, Howard. Welcome to the blog! If you'd like to contribute any mailbox photos, please send them in... as you know, Tucson has a lot of great mailboxes, so I'll probably never find them all myself!
