Sculpture and mosaic: 818 N. Irving Circle

David Aber sent photos of this beautiful box on November 5, 2019:

Arizona flag flag: 8116 E. 6th St.

I don't see many mailbox flags that are a flag. David Aber found this one and emailed it November 5, 2019:

Most people don't paint the back of their box, but this person did:

Stunning skylines: 6250 E. 2nd St.

One side is at night; the others are during the day:

Thanks, David Aber, for shooting and sending these on November 5th.

Flight of fancy: 5317 E. Rosewood St.

Notice the bird carrying a letter on the end of the box? (As always, you can click on the photo for a larger view.)

This beauty is from David Aber. He emailed it November 5th.

Don't touch that box: 4220 E. 2nd St.

David Aber is at it again. How do you find these amazing mailboxes, Dave?

He emailed the photo on November 5th.

Finally, bigger photos (when you click)!

Until recently, Blogger would charge me money if I put photos on this blog that were longer or wider than 800 pixels. That used to be pretty big, years ago... but now it's small. They've raised the limit to 2,048 pixels.

Starting next week, if you click on a photo, you'll see a much larger version. (The template that holds the photos and text is still the same width. I'll try to fix that some day. For now, you'll need to click.)

Turkey mailboxes

Here are a few image searches for turkey mailbox:
Happy Thanksgiving!

Monday, November 25, 2019

6418 East Calle Dened

I'm not sure whether this mailbox was painted by one person or by a committee: flowers, leaves, a diamond pattern… and a flag with a pattern like a checkered racing flag?

I stopped by to ponder on June 21st.

Monday, November 18, 2019

6433 East Calle Dened

This mailbox isn't just mounted on the front wheel, fork and handlebars of a motorcycle…
Take a closer look at the box itself (below). There's a headlight on front and a handle for the flag. The house number is inside a license plate frame:

Amazing. I rolled by on June 21st.

3602 South Santee Avenue

Although I found this mailbox with an eagle on the post June 21st, I saved it for Veterans Day.

6410 East Calle Castor

This rusted mailbox has seen better days — a lot of them. :) It was along my mailbox-hunting route on June 21st:

1037 East Simmons Street

David Aber calls this CelestialBox. The homeowner hand-painted it:

He emailed the photos on September 17th. Thanks, as always, Dave!

426 West Simpson Street (in 2014)

We usually don't show mailboxes with saguaro-shaped posts, but this one has a saguaro made of horseshoes!

The door to the home also has a horseshoe design.
I found this mailbox on March 3, 2014, but decided not to show any more saguaro posts. I just changed my mind about this one. :)

2237 South Pebble Beach Avenue

David Aber found this example of “cat-titude” and emailed it on August 5th. Although we usually don't show mailboxes that have a cover (typically vinyl) hung over the box, those covers are usually commercially made. Dave pointed out that this one looks handmade, and I agree (it's a good job!). Whether it is or not, though, I'm sure I'd get an irate message from Colette if I leave her picture off of the blog.

Have a good Labor Day! (You can be sure that Collete is.)

8315 East Calexico Street

mailboxes with big stuccoed posts because there are so many around town. But this mailbox — which is buried in an extravagantly-decorated post — has gotta be an exception to the rule.

I (couldn't miss it as I) drove by on June 21st.

Monday, August 12, 2019

8407 East Calexico Street

I've seen a few mailboxes around town with posts made of a cage full of rocks. This is one of them.

I found it on June 21st. Here's the other side.

1822 South Camino Seco

This hand-painted mailbox looked unfinished to me. A boy riding his bike told me that the box had been there since his family moved in — so I'm guessing it's as finished as it's going to be.

I wondered if his parents might come out, worried that a strange man :) was taking photos of their mailbox close to their son and his friend. So I didn't take time to snap the other side. But it's pure white, so there wasn't much to see. I rushed by on June 21st.

Monday, July 29, 2019

1601 South Camino Seco

This isn't the only mailbox in the neighborhood with what looks like a planter on the opposite side of its post:

I was there June 21st.

Monday, July 22, 2019

9233 East 29th Street

Check the closeup below — you click on it for a larger view — and you'll see that this mailbox has a manufactured cover. (Check the door hinge and the right edge where the cover meets the door.) Usually I only show mailboxes that are hand-painted, but I thought a lot of us would like this U of A design.

I spotted it on June 21st.

9330 East 27th Street

This mailbox has seen better days. It has pieces of wood on the front and back, but they're half broken and the paint has faded. Also, my photo of the front didn't come out… but I decided to publish this box anyway and let you use your imagination. It also looks like a bird may be missing from one of the roosts under the mailbox.

The Google Map in Blogger wouldn't show this address; it showed 9324 instead. So here's a Mapquest map: 9330 E. 27th St, Tucson, AZ.

I drove by on June 21st.

Monday, July 8, 2019

1812 South Rocky Mountain Drive

Except for the rocks it's mounted on, this set of handlebars with a mailbox looked ready to roll when I drove by on June 21st.

Monday, July 1, 2019

9301 East 29th Street

Just in time for the 4th of July… this mailbox is about the most red, white, and blue you can get.

I stopped by and saluted on June 21st.

Monday, June 24, 2019

3223 East 25th Street

It looks like some kid(s) had fun painting this mailbox…

I found it on December 29, 2018.

Maiboxes in Melbourne

Tucson artist K. Loren Dawn enjoys trips to the tropics. She also has an eye for mailboxes — and sends ones she spots along the way. Here are two. The hidden camera data says that the first is from May 1st and the second from May 4th. Thanks, Loren!
