Suspected mail thieves caught with AirTag

On February 20, 2023, I posted Mail thief caught on mailbox camera. Last week — August 27, 2024 — the Associated Press published a story with another clever technique:

California woman fed up with stolen mail sends Apple AirTag to herself to catch thief

(By the way, if you haven't heard of AP, they've been supplying news since 1846 — from very local to worldwide. I suggest looking around their website apnews.org.)

2522 South Calle Yucatan: Day and night

I found this bright box on Sunday, August 4:
It has a daytime side (which happened to be sunlit when I was there)…
…and a nighttime side (in shadow):

Completely different at 3202 East 24th Street

Our November 18, 2014 post showed a mailbox a few blocks south of Reid Park that might have been a covered wagon. On May 28, 2024, I noticed something completely different: a huge letter A (as in the University of Arizona) with a mailbox near the top:
That's one creative Wildcat — or a family of them.

This is the first mailbox I've seen with the address forwards on one side and backwards on the other:
I found it on April 16, 2024.

(Not) "Air Mail" box in Chattanooga

Have you been around long enough to remember when there were two ways to send a letter: regular first class mail and air mail? (Regular mail went by train or truck. Air mail went by, uh…). On road trips in the countryside, I saw some homes with two mailboxes by the road. One box was the normal kind near the ground. The other was on a tall post — reaching maybe ten or 20 feet into the air — with a sign saying AIR MAIL.😏

On a road trip in October, 2023, I stopped by the Sculpture Fields at Montague Park in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Although this sculpture is actually “Captain Merkel’s Ramming Dragon” by Verina Baxter (18'x10'x6'9", made in 2015), it reminded me of the old AIR MAIL boxes.
What do you think?

Bright box at 3539 East 28th Street

This blog was quiet for eight months starting August, 2023. I didn't publish the photos here before I stopped posting to the blog. I took them on February 18, 2023:

Hidden in the Garden District: 2216

David Aber spotted this colorful mailbox in the Garden District on April 12th:
Just underneath the front of the mailbox are bright red lips 👄 and a heart 💖 — for the USPS letter carrier, I'll bet 😘:
It's spectacular — and fun. I didn't post it with the address, though. It's 2216 North Sycamore Boulevard.

Thanks, David.

Tiny ceramic sculptures are crawling around the tops of two sides of this mailbox post:
I was there on April 4th.
